Local in Privacy Mode

When Privacy Mode is enabled, Finch uses local transcription and blocks automatic cloud, AI, license-revalidation, and update traffic. Explicit license-management or model-download actions can still require a connection.

Signed Updates

Verified as genuine before installing (Ed25519 signed). Tampered updates are rejected automatically.

Protected Against Attacks

Built-in protection against hacking attempts (CSP enabled). Unauthorized code can't run.

Download Verification

AI model downloads verified for integrity (SHA256 checksums). Corrupted files rejected.

API Key Validation

Format validation catches typos before API calls. Keys stored securely using OS credential storage.

Minimal Permissions

Tauri 2.0 capabilities limit app permissions to only what's needed. No filesystem or shell access.

Retry Protection

Exponential backoff prevents API abuse. 10KB limit protects against oversized payloads.

Protected by Windows

Database keys protected by your Windows account (DPAPI encrypted). Only you can access your data.

Bank-Level Encryption

Your dictionary, snippets, and history encrypted at rest (AES-256). Same encryption banks use.

Secure Password Storage

API keys stored securely by Windows (Credential Manager). Never in plain text files.

Input Limits and Sanitization

Finch limits input to 10,000 characters and filters some instruction-like patterns. These controls reduce risk but cannot eliminate prompt injection.

Audio Size Limits

100 MB maximum audio size prevents memory exhaustion. Large files rejected before processing.

Auto-Migration

Legacy plaintext storage automatically upgraded to encrypted format. Enhanced security without manual steps.

Personal Dictionary

Store specialized vocabulary for optional Groq text cleanup. Entries are not applied to local Whisper or Privacy Mode transcription.
